Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin®, Macrobid®, Macrodantin®) is an antibiotic used for the treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs). This medication comes in the form of a liquid, capsule, or slow-release capsule; it is typically taken two to four times a day, depending on which product you are using. Possible side effects include vomiting, loss of appetite, and nausea. Before using this drug, tell your healthcare provider if you have diabetes, anemia, an electrolyte imbalance, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
