Bladder Home > Interstitial Cystitis Diet
There is no scientific evidence linking diet to interstitial cystitis. However, some people believe that certain foods make their symptoms worse. Some of the foods that people with interstitial cystitis avoid including in their diet are:
- Caffeinated and citrus beverages
- High-acid foods.
Other people notice that their symptoms get worse after eating or drinking products containing artificial sweeteners.
If certain foods or drinks make your interstitial cystitis symptoms worse, these products should be avoided. You can gradually reintroduce them one at a time to see which, if any, affect symptoms. It is important, however, to maintain a well-balanced and varied diet.
