There is no scientific evidence linking diet to
interstitial cystitis. However, some people believe that certain foods make their
interstitial cystitis symptoms worse. An interstitial cystitis food list consists of foods and beverages that some people choose to avoid in order to prevent worsening of symptoms. Some of these foods include:
- Alcohol
- Tomatoes
- Spices
- Chocolate
- Caffeinated and citrus beverages
- High-acid foods.
Other people notice that their symptoms get worse after eating or drinking products containing artificial sweeteners.
If certain foods or drinks make your symptoms worse, these products should be avoided. You can gradually reintroduce them one at a time to see which, if any, affect symptoms. It is important, however, to maintain a well-balanced and varied diet.
