Scientists have not yet found an interstitial cystitis cure, nor can they predict who will respond best to which interstitial cystitis treatment. Because the causes of interstitial cystitis are unknown, treatments are aimed at relieving symptoms. Symptoms may go away on their own or after a change in diet or treatment. Even when symptoms of interstitial cystitis go away, however, they may return after days, weeks, months, or even years. Scientists do not know why this happens.
