Elmiron Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Elmiron® (pentosan polysulfate sodium) has not been studied for interactions with other drugs. Due to its blood-thinning nature, however, one can follow some basic guidelines generally associated with blood thinners. The following is a list of types of drugs that, according to the manufacturer, could possibly have an interaction with Elmiron:
 
  • Medications that dissolve blood clots
  • Aspirin, especially in higher doses
  • Blood thinners, such as warfarin (Coumadin®)
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen.
